Tiger Envelopes created an uninstaller for you if you used one of its installers. If you installed from the source (i.e., envelopes-source-only-x.y.tar.gz), then follow these instructions.
If you're on Windows, you can just use the Windows Control Panel as usual. On Mac and Windows, you can move to the installation folder and double click on the Uninstall icon. If you're running on a Unix machine, then move to the installation folder and type "./uninstall" (without the quotes).
You will be prompted to let us know why you're uninstalling Tiger and to send anonymized logs so we can fix any problems that you had. Sending information to Tiger Privacy is completely optional. If you don't want anything sent, then simply uncheck the Send anonymized logs box and leave all other fields blank.
When you click the Uninstall button, then all files installed by Tiger Envelopes will be removed. Also, it will stop Tiger Envelopes from running and make sure that Tiger does not start up every time you start your computer.
The data folder and the Tiger Envelopes configuration file, called options.xml, will not be removed. We leave these files in place so if you re-install Tiger Envelopes you don't have to reconfigure Envelopes.
The uninstaller does not remove any keys that were added. This means that if you let Tiger Envelopes create passphrases for your keys, you probably want to store the passphrases in a safe place before uninstalling Tiger Envelopes. If you delete the options.xml before you save your auto-generated passphrases, there will be no way to recover them.
If Tiger Envelopes configured any of your email accounts in your mail client, it can automatically restore the configuration when you uninstall it. Otherwise, you'll have to manually reconfigure your mail client manually. Tiger saved your configuration before it made any changes so you'll have all the information you need.
The safest way to reconfigure your mail client is to start the client and change each email address that Tiger was protecting back to the original settings. If Tiger automatically configured your mail clients, then you'll find a backup copy of the settings in the following location:
Mail Client Location Windows Outlook 2000 through 2007 Envelopes data folder/backups Windows Outlook Express Envelopes data folder/backups Thunderbird
Windows [home]/Application Data/Thunderbird/Profiles/[default]/prefs.js.pre.envelopes Mac [home]/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/[default]/prefs.js.pre.envelopes Linux [home]/.mozilla-thunderbird/Profiles/[default]/prefs.js.pre.envelopes
or [home]/.thunderbird/Profiles/[default]/prefs.js.pre.envelopesMac Mail [home]/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist.pre.envelopes KMail [home]/.kde/share/config/kmailrc.pre.envelopes
or [home]/.kde/share/config/emailidentities.pre.envelopesReplace [home] with the name of your home folder and [default] with the name of Thunderbird's default profile. The Application Data folder is frequently hidden so you may need to unhide the folder to reach it through Windows Explorer.
Use the configuration instructions to see which settings you should restore.
