What do I do with a key someone sent me?

Tiger Privacy

If you encounter one of those rare, brave people who isn't using Tiger Envelopes but is using encryption, you'll need to import their public key before mail to them will be protected.

  1. Ask them to send you their public key, preferrably as an attachment.
  2. Start the Tiger Envelopes control panel.
  3. Click the Keys tab.
  4. Click the Import button.
  5. If you are using multiple encryption programs, then select the program you want to import the key. You usually want to import the key into the same program the other person is using.
  6. If they sent a file, then click the Browse button and select the file name.
  7. Or, if they sent their key as text, then copy the text and paste it into the window.
  8. Verify their key

Of course, the easiest way to exchange keys is to suggest the other person install Tiger Envelopes, too. After it is installed on both your computers, then simply ask them to send you a message. Their key will automatically be added to your list of protected addresses. The next time you send them a message it will be private, and your public key will automatically be added to their list. All future messages to and from them will be protected.
