How do I restore my mail client to
the way it was before Tiger Envelopes?

Tiger Privacy

If Tiger Envelopes automatically configured your mail client, then it will restore the settings when you delete the account through Tiger's control panel or uninstall Tiger.

Tiger Envelopes always backs up any configuration files before it changes them, so you can restore your mail client to a "pre-Tiger Envelopes" state. Unless you're using Outlook or Outlook Express, you can simply restore your mail client by copying the backup file to the client's configuration file. The disadvantage of doing this is that any other changes that you made to the client will probably be lost. It is better to change the settings manually.

Tiger Envelopes never writes to any of your mail client's message files. It never deletes any accounts, mail, or profiles.

Windows Outlook and Windows Outlook Express store their settings in the registry. There is a registry file (.reg) for each email account, but it's still probably best to manually change the settings back to their original state.

Before you restore any files, exit your mail client and backup all its data files. Afterwards, copy the file shown in the From column to the file with the To name. The pre.envelopes backup files are in the same folder as your mail client's configuration file.

Mail Client From To
Thunderbird prefs.js.pre.envelopes prefs.js
Mac Mail com.apple.mail.plist.pre.envelopes com.apple.mail.plist
KMail kmailrc.pre.envelopes
emailidentities.pre.envelopes
kmailrc
emailidentities

Mac Mail users: If you manually reconfigure your accounts, you should also rename the mailboxes in your home folder's Library/Mail folder. Folder names should use the format of the user name followed by an @ followed by the host name (e.g., userName@host).

Start your mail client, and your settings should be back to their original state before you installed Tiger.
